27 February, 2023

The interim bail granted to Congress Spokesperson Pawan Khera was extended today by the Supreme Court till March 3, 2023. He was arrested from Delhi airport by Assam police over his derogatory comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The case was listed for today before the Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice PB Pardiwala, and Justice PS Narasimha.

During the press conference, while demanding a probe in Adani-Hindenburg controversy, Congress Spokesperson Pawan Khera allegedly said, “If Narasimha Rao could form a JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee), if Atal Bihari Vajpayee could form a JPC, then what problem does Narendra Gautam Das…sorry Damodardas Modi Have?” To this, BJP claimed that Pawan Khera deliberately flubbed the name; therefore, offences under Section 153A, 153B, 295A and 505 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) were invoked against him.

The top Court allowed him interim bail till February 28, 2023, on February 23, 2023. The bench hearing the case then ordered that “In order to protect the petitioner until such date as he applies for regular bail before jurisdictional court, till the next date of listing, petitioner shall be released on interim bail by the Magistrate at Delhi where he is to produced this evening for transit remand.”
